The IRS has posted a series of 10 videos on YouTube about the Final 403(b) Regulations. Featuring Tax Law Specialists Bob Architect, the IRS’ authority on 403(b) plans, the videos are short, informative and worth watching. Each video is about 10 minutes long, and paced so that you can watch them during a short coffee break. (hat tip to BenefitsLink.com)
No word yet from the IRS whether the deadline to comply with the Final 403(b) Regulations will be extended. On October 22nd, a number of ERISA and Employee Benefits professionals sent a letter to the IRS requesting a one-year extension in the deadline to January 1, 2010. The request for an extension of the deadline is based, in part, on the fact that the IRS will be opening the 403(b) program in 2009, so that plan document providers will be writing plans to comply with the Final 403(b) Regulations without knowing what provisions the IRS will require pre-approved 403(b) prototype and volume submitter plans to contain. A similar effort made last with the deadline to comply with the Final 409A Regulations was successful.
